Meaning : ‘She is the most auspicious one and the one who
bestows auspiciousness upon all of the world. She is pure and holy. She
protects those who surrender to her and is also called the Mother of the three
worlds and is Gauri, daughter of mountain king. We bow down to Mother Durga
again and again. We worship her.
Goddesses Durga the Mahashakti, the form and formless, is the root cause
of creation, preservation and extinction. Durga, meaning “the invincible” is
the principal form of the Goddess, also known as Devi and Shakti in Hinduism.
According to legend, Durga was created for the slaying of the buffalo demon
Mahishasura by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and the lesser gods, who were otherwise
powerless to overcome him. Embodying their collective energy (shakti), she is
both derivative from the male divinities and the manifested representation of
their power. Durga is the goddess of power and strength and is perhaps the most
important goddess of the Hindus. She is a multi-dimensional Goddess, with many
names, many personas, and many facets. As Shakti, she is the destroyer of evil
– with her ten mighty arms carrying lethal weapons she triumphantly slays the
demon Mahishasura.
